Well my son has been in his fair share of hockey camps and if your from Manitoba. My favorite to this point has been The RINK. Great staff, well run programs and he always comes out better then when he went in. Lots of options depending on what your kid needs from Goalie to Defenceman. Skating to shooting.
Next would be Edge of Excellence. Went 3 years straight. Great camp if you need to work on skating.

We just finished another week at the Fleck's Canadian Supercamp in Estevan, Saskatchewan. This is our third year and it has once again proven to be the greatest experience ever for my son. Not to say that Winnipeg doesn't have good hockey camps, but the Fleck program is unparalleled to anything I have ever seen or heard of in Manitoba, or anywhere else for that matter. In fact, many kids who attend this camp have full scholarships at Notre Dame and other similar hockey schools in western Canada, but they specifically choose the Fleck Supercamp to get an edge up on their colleagues. I think what really makes the difference with their program is that all the main instructors are paid professional players and goaltenders from the CHL, ECHL, AHL, and NHL. Even the smaller group leaders all play either Canadian Junior or are enrolled in top ranking hockey colleges across North America, each aspiring to make it to that next level. As it is their life, these guys KNOW what they are talking about and truly enjoy sharing their skillset with the youth of today. So many (and quite often too many) times I’ve had parents and coaches tell me or my son how he should be playing hockey, and as much as I might appreciate their concern or input, I usually just tell my kid to remember and do what the pros taught you! 2011 marks the 10th year for the Fleck Supercamp and is now bringing in kids (both male and female) from coast to coast in Canada, central United States, Europe, and even as far away as China. The Canadian camp runs for three weeks and has limited space so you must book early to get in. Each week typically has a little over 100 kids of which they divide into 3 separate age groups. With as many as 15 instructors it makes for an excellent student to teacher ratio, your child is guaranteed to get plenty of one-on-one attention. My son plays goalie and this last week there were 9 goalies with 3 pro-goaler instructors, that alone was invaluable for him, and me literally! Registration and orientation begins on the Sunday and they start training early Monday morning, finishing the following Saturday with ‘game day’ and a wind-up BBQ. Players receive nearly 17 hours of ice time, goalies get about 20 hours with a few extra goalie-only sessions. All kids also get 6 hours of dryland training, 4 hours of classroom instruction, and a couple hours of swimming. Daily lunch is included and one really nice custom jersey that your kid will be very proud to wear after having made it through the camp. They also offer a specialized ‘shooter’ program (an additional 5 hours) where players launch hundreds of pucks from synthetic ice while wearing their skates. Working on wrist to slap shots with various unique target and angle setups, the focus is to develop proper technique and to drop bad habits that limit their ability to improve. Individual progress report cards are given out at the end for both shooters and the main camp, letting you know how they improved and what they can work on for future. The weekdays start as early as 7:00am and run as late as 6:30pm, so believe me when I say this camp will seriously challenge your child’s ability to give 100% ALL of the time. Typically by the end of day 2 most of the kids are tired, sore, and ready to go home. But by day 4 and 5 they are pumped and strong, ready for more! You can actually see the improvement as the week progresses. The instructors also manage to integrate fun into many of the drills, sometimes the kids don’t even realize they’re getting an intense workout. Have you ever seen a ‘man-maker’ type drill that your kid wanted to do twice? how about three times?? The full-length game (in each age group) is where your child can display their newfound skills and techniques from one hard-core week of training. All around the Fleck Supercamp is an extremely satisfying experience for both hockey players and parents alike. I really can’t say enough about it. The camp and their staff are just fantastic! It is undoubtedly the most influential and beneficial training that my son has ever received. Most importantly the skills being taught are real and current in todays game, not ‘same-old’ or ‘from-a-book’ style instruction. We will absolutely continue to attend annually, and I can guarantee you will not be disappointed if you did too. For more information you can visit www.fleckshockey.com or you can contact myself if you have any questions about the camp.
